Three local trustees honored

Three local school board members were recently honored as recipients of the 2012 Trustee of the Year award at the annual Placer County School Boards Association dinner held Nov. 26. They include Scott Huber of the Roseville Joint Union High School District, Jerri Davis of the Eureka Union School District and Susan Goto of the Roseville City School District. Goto will be soon leaving her school board to serve on the Placer Board of Education, having won an open seat with 73 percent of the vote in the Nov. 6 election. In total, 10 recipients earned the award, having been nominated by their respective school boards.

Several Roseville students earned recognition for their Red Ribbon Week posters and essays as part of an annual contest held by the Roseville Elks Lodge and Roseville Emblem Club. Seven schools participated in the essay portion of the contest, submitting 168 entries. Twelve schools took part in the poster contest with 271 submissions. Each school got a first, second and third prize in both contests. The two grand prize winners each took home a $100 gift card during the Nov. 28 award dinner at the Elks Lodge.

Grand prize winners in the poster contest were Armonii Tafoya from Cirby Elementary School and Kyle Mattix from Diamond Creek Elementary School.  Grand prize winners for the essay competition included Jazamine Martinez from Chilton Middle school and Lillian Adona from Buljan Middle School.
