On the morning of Oct.23, the Placer County Sheriff’s Office received a call of an alarm activation after two people tried to burglarize a residence under construction in Granite Bay, according to Placer County Sheriff's spokesman Lt. Andrew Scott.

Deputies found a car parked in front of the garage door and two doors to the residence were left open, according to Scott.

Katie Saetta 33, of Cameron Park and Jonathan Hodgkins 38, of Sacramento walked up to the deputy’s car from the house, according to Scott.

The suspects gave an implausible story as to why they were parked there, according to Placer County Sgt. Jason Doolittle.

“After briefly speaking to one of the deputies on scene, their story did not add up,” Doolittle said. “We are still investigating, but so far, we have found no one in that area that gave the suspects permission to be at that house.”

Construction tools inside the residence were moved and staged near the exterior garage door, according to law enforcement officials.

Deputies searched the vehicle and discovered methamphetamine, burglary tools and personal information of more than 10 individuals, indicating identity theft among other violations, according to Doolittle. The personal information included usernames, passwords, driver licenses, bank cards, bank statements, checkbooks, and auto insurance cards, according to Doolittle.

Law enforcement officials told Gold Country Media that identity theft is becoming more prominent in the area.

“Yes, we are seeing more thefts of people's personal information,” Doolittle said. “Typically, what burglars will do is send this information (once stolen) to someone who knows what to do with that info on the dark web.”

Hodgkins was arrested and booked for burglary, possession of burglary tools, possession of a controlled substance, conspiracy, and committing a felony while out on bail, according to the Placer County jail database. His bail is set at $75,000 and he is currently booked at the jail in Roseville, according to the Placer County jail database.

Saetta was charged with burglary, conspiracy, identity theft of over 10 people, possession of burglary tools and possession of a controlled substance. Her bail is set at $20,000 and she is currently at the jail in Auburn.
