Sunday Apr 14 2013 comments The week in photos, April 7 - 13 By: Megan Houchin, -A +A Through interviews with Auburn-area fire officials, the Journal has assembled a broad swath of information to provide a snapshot of the resources and challenges of local fire departments. A fire did significant damage to a Luther Road home in the early afternoon on Saturday, April 6 in North Auburn. No one was in the single-story, 1100-square-foot house at the time of the blaze and it's possible the house was unoccupied, Cal Fire spokeswoman Lynne Tolmachoff said. "We started getting calls about 1:52 (p.m.)," she said. "By the time (crews) got there, it was pretty well involved." There were no reported injuries and the cause of the fire is still under investigation. In addition to Cal Fire, Auburn City and Newcastle fire departments also responded. Matt Flaherty of Chicago finished in first at this year's American River 50-mile Endurance Run on Saturday, April 6. Flaherty finished in 6:08:18. The race began in Sacramento and finished at the Overlook Park in Auburn.
