Scarecrows, costumes delight at Denio’s festival and parade
By: Anne Stokes, Press Tribune CorrespondentChildren came out in full force — dressed as Cleopatra, Spiderman, a unicorn and more — and some brought along homemade scarecrows for the Scarecrow Festival and Parade on Saturday at Denio’s Farmers Market and Swap Meet in Roseville.
More than 350 children decorated pumpkins and even more participated in other activities, such as trick-or-treating, feasting on caramel apples and marching in a costume parade. The inaugural event celebrated Halloween, while raising money for Roseville Firefighters Caring for Kids and Community, a charity that distributes new clothes and school supplies to low-income kids. On Sunday, many scarecrows were auctioned off, raising enough money to buy clothes and supplies for 10 local children.
