First graders at Maidu School in Roseville perform in their campus’s annual patriotic assembly on Nov. 16.

Dressed in tie-dyed red, white and blue, first graders at Maidu School in Roseville paid tribute to the United States during the campus’s annual patriotic assembly on Nov. 16.

They sang songs about America, Thanksgiving and even rapped about President Abraham Lincoln to the piano playing of teacher Debbie Stogner. During the assembly, the handful of people in the audience who have served in the armed forces were asked to stand and be recognized.

The children also paid tribute to one of America’s greatest pastimes — baseball — with a lively rendition of “Take Me Out to the Ball Game.” For this performance, the young lead singers were decked out in San Francisco Giants gear.
