On Aug. 12, undercover Placer County Sheriff deputies arrested Greg Lesko of San Jose  for meeting up in Auburn with what Lesko thought was a 15-year-old girl.

Instead, Lesko was greeted by detectives who arrested him on many charges, according to Placer County Sheriff’s spokesman Lt. Andrew Scott.

Lesko, 35, was arrested for contacting, arranging a meeting, meeting with a minor for sexual purposes, and sending harmful material to a minor, according to Scott. Lesko was booked at the Auburn Main Jail where he remains in custody, as of Friday. His bail is set at $750,000.

Lesko sent sexually explicit photos to the alias he thought was a 15-year-old girl, according to Scott. The night of Aug. 12,  Lesko drove more than 100 miles from San Jose to meet with her, according to officials.

“It’s a matter of building a case on someone,” Scott told Gold Country Media. “Placer County conducts these types of sting operations one to two times a month in an effort to keep sexual predators off the streets. “

“We’re looking to remove sexual predators and keep them from preying on kids. The operation itself doesn’t cost much of anything. We operate with detectives who are assigned to sex crime cases while specifically and exclusively dealing with sex offenders,” Scott said. “Whether it be people that are committing sex crimes or people who have had to register because they have committed sex crimes in the past, we want to know what those people are up to and what they are doing.”

Many of the predators are from out of the area, according to Scott.

“The majority of them do not live in Placer County, but if they are willing to come to Placer County to commit that crime, we will investigate.”

“This is something we take very seriously,” Scott added. “We want to deal with these cases as best we can.”
