The tide is turning this fall in Sierra Foothill League girls golf.

Granite Bay High School senior Paige Lee hadn’t been beaten in a league dual meet or tournament until last week, when Camille Wagg of Rocklin was the medalist in their dual.

It happened again Monday when Wagg shot a 3-under-par 70 for the medalist honor in SFL tournament No. 1 at Diamond Oaks. The junior led Rocklin to the team title with a 405 total.

“Rocklin is playing incredible golf,” Granite Bay coach Jason Sitterud said.

Led by Lee’s even-par 73, the Grizzlies placed second at 441. Lee has won three consecutive SFL individual titles. To at least share a fourth, she’ll need to be the medalist when Granite Bay plays host to Rocklin and then win the second SFL tournament.

“She has some work to do,” Sitterud said of Lee.

Wagg and Lee are 1-2 in the SFL in points with Roseville junior Virgie Velazquez third. Velazquez tied Lee with a 73 on Monday.

Tigers coach Corey Fukuman said Velazquez has improved her course management and short game, has had only one nine-hole round over 40 and has been under 80 in all of her 18-hole tournaments. She shot a 34 at Serrano in her first competitive round of the season.

“She’s always been able to hit the ball,” Fukuman said. “Her scoring shots are starting to improve. She’s been rock solid all year.”
