Granite Bay water polo win sets up big match against Woodcreek

Oakmont (20-1), Granite Bay (18-3) to meet in volleyball

Granite Bay High School blew out visiting Rocklin 19-4 in a Sierra Foothill League boys water polo match Tuesday.

Jack Ellinthorpe led the Grizzlies (4-2, 2-0) with five goals, and Max Vigeant and Corey Consunji scored four each against the Thunder (0-2, 0-1).

Max Ellinthorpe, Kevin Wylder, Nathan Pinkney, Matt Giles, Frankie Cervantes and Patrick Carroll scored one goal apiece.

Granite Bay will play Woodcreek on Thursday at the Roseville Aquatics Complex.

Woodcreek 21, Roseville 12 — Evan Attica and Eric Waters scored three goals each and Nick Sapp two for the Tigers (3-6, 0-3). Attica also had five assists.

Woodcreek won the JV game 13-7. Roseville’s Kevin Gard scored six goals.

Girls water polo

Granite Bay 8, Rocklin 6 — Senior goalie Sara Northam made 16 saves in the cage to lift the Grizzlies (2-1, 1-1) past the Thunder (6-7, 0-2).

“Sara made some remarkable stops,” Granite Bay coach Mike Saldana said. “She’s just getting better with each game.”

Junior Grace Reego scored tying and insurance goals in the fourth quarter among her four, and Lia Patrinellis’ skip shot gave Granite Bay a 7-6 lead. Sophomore Kat Conen had four assists and a goal, and senior Hayley McAvoy scored two goals.


Granite Bay 3, Union Mine 0 — Maddy Deters had a huge match with 10 kills, seven digs and six of the Grizzlies’ 14 aces in their 25-13, 25-14, 25-12 sweep of Union Mine.

Taylor Nelson had 34 assists and five kills for Granite Bay, and Megan Zabrowski and Chandler Awalt each had five kills. Kiah Drongesen led the Grizzlies with eight digs, and Libby Deters served five aces for Granite Bay (18-3), which plays host to Oakmont at 6 p.m. Thursday.

Oakmont 3, Inderkum 0 — Sophomore Ally Wubben set up a hitting attack that converted on more than 50 percent of its swings as the Vikings (20-1) blew out host Inderkum 25-8, 25-11, 25-3.

Wubben had 24 assists and eight digs. Katie Carte had six kills and Sami Walters five. Daniella Smith had six digs for Oakmont.

Valley Christian 3, Wilton Christian 0 — The Lions won at Wilton Christian 25-12, 25-14, 25-14.
