Rosebuds: Greetings from Mommyland

He's here! Wesley Felix Carl was born June 16 at Kaiser Roseville. I delivered a healthy 7 pound, 5 ounce baby boy via Caesarean.

The last three weeks have gone so fast! So much change in so little time ... The first two weeks we were definitely in "survival mode" -- just make it through the night and we'll try to do better tomorrow. There have been back-to-back-to-back diaper changes, pee on the walls, swaddling jobs that come unswaddled in three seconds and bedhead hairstyles you wouldn't believe.

I've been recuperating from surgery well thanks to my husband who has been keeping me fed (strawberry French toast and Patty melts have been on the menu) and delivering Wesley to me for late-night feedings. It's been hard to look after my own health while trying to take care of a new baby, so I couldn't do it without him!

This little guy is attached to me 24/7. I'm breastfeeding, so I feel like a milk machine. I'm also a human couch since Wesley's favorite way to fall asleep is nestled on my chest, listening to my heartbeat. (In fact, the only reason I'm able to write this now is I'm finally feeling confident in my Moby wrapping skills and Wesley is asleep in the wrap.) Because of this, I barely have time to boil a pot for tea without him crying out for me, let alone time to write this column. But rest assured, there are plenty of adventures I hope to tell you about soon (perhaps when he starts taking longer naps!)
