Tonight's the night: Contestants will hit the stage for the second-annual RTAA Idol competition.

The judges of the contest, held by the nonprofit Roseville Theatre Arts Academy, seek to identify the best local singer. Following auditions in April, they've narrowed down their search to 12 finalists. The Press Tribune has been profiling three finalists each week leading up to today's main attraction.

Name: Chelsea Gilbert

Age: 15

Residence: Roseville

Where do you go to school? I go to Oakmont High School.

Did you participate in last year's Idol competition? I didn't do last year's competition.

What song did you sing for your audition? I sang "Goodbye Kiss" by Grace Potter and the Nocturnals.

Tell me about your singing/performance background? I've been singing all my life and I started performing when I was 8 years old. I taught myself to play guitar when I was 12 because I was inspired by Taylor Swift.

What are some of your hobbies? I really like to cook.

Any interesting thing people should know about you? I grew up on music from the '60s and '70s.

Where do you go to school? I'm a junior at Oakmont High School.

Did you participate in last year's Idol competition? No.

What song did you sing for your audition? "Angels on the Moon," by Thriving Ivory.

Tell me about your singing/performance background? I have always had a passion for singing and performing, and have performed in front of dozens of crowds. I have sung in talent shows at my middle school and high school, and have performed in three plays at Oakmont, including a lead role in the production of "Little Shop of Horrors."

What are some of your hobbies? In my spare time, I enjoy writing poems and writing rap songs, and hope to release my first mix tape within the next couple of months.

Any interesting thing people should know about you? People should know that I am ready to be taken seriously.

Name: Skye Sherman

Age: 15

Residence: Roseville

Where do you go to school? I go to Oakmont High School. I'm a freshman.

Did you participate in last year's Idol competition? No, I didn't. I hope I win because I'm moving to Texas this summer and I'd get to come back next year (to defend my title) and see all my friends that are still in California.

What song did you sing for your audition? "Haven't Met You Yet," by Michael Buble.

Tell me about your singing/performance background? I've been singing since before I could talk. It's the thing I've done my whole entire life. I've done choir in school a few times.

I'm actually in (Oakmont's) drama program, but I haven't been in any of the plays recently. Last year in eighth grade I was in a play, but everyone in class was.

What are some of your hobbies? Singing, songwriting, writing in general. I love writing stories. I don't know if it counts as a hobby, but watching "Teen Titans." I watch it all the time, it's so good.

Any interesting thing people should know about you? I accidentally have 22 rats that need to be gotten rid of. I got two rats and made the mistake of keeping them in the same cage, and they had babies. My mom put an ad on Craigslist and we're waiting for people to call us.
