Roseville Theatre Arts Academy calling all singers
Calling all local singers: Now's your chance to shine.
The nonprofit Roseville Theatre Arts Academy is holding auditions Sunday, April 22, to identify finalists for the second annual RTAA Idol competition. Winners get some glory and the organization gets money toward updating their theater equipment.
"I thought it would be a fun little show last year," said Musical Director Jennifer Vaughn. "But then it exploded into this major fundraiser. The support from the community was so humbling and wonderful, we just had to make it annual."
Last year's event nearly sold out and raised more than $23,000. Before the inaugural Idol competition, the academy discovered the assets in the historic Roseville Theater had been used as collateral on a loan by a previous tenant - a loan they defaulted on, leaving the bank ready to take everything, including lights, curtains and the seats.
The academy made a deal with the bank but still has the remainder of the loan to pay off.
"Whatever we can raise beyond that will go toward making our equipment as professional as our productions," said President Michelle Raskey.
Idol sponsorships are available. To donate to the event's raffle and silent auction, email firstname.lastname@example.org.
