EUSD hires permanent superintendent
The Eureka Union School District has hired Rocklin district administrator Linda Rooney as its new permanent superintendent.
Rooney is the deputy superintendent of education services in the Rocklin Unified School District. The Eureka Union School District’s board of trustees unanimously selected her for the position, and her contract starts July 1. Rooney will earn a base salary of $156,000.
Interim Superintendent Paul Carras, who started Feb. 22, will fill the role until July. The district has been without a permanent top administrator since the resignation of Dr. Tim McCarty in February 2011.
“In these challenging times the (district) finds it necessary to have a leader with the experience to deal with difficult issues, as well as lead and inspire our dedicated staff and community,” said board President Kristie Greiss, in a news release issued Friday.
Greiss said the board is confident that Rooney will “continue to maintain (the district’s) reputation as the top performing district in the greater Sacramento area and one of the top in all of California.”
Rooney began her career as an elementary teacher in 1976 in Wasco, Calif. She moved to the Pleasant Ridge Union School District in Grass Valley in 1978 where she served for the next 30 years as a teacher, principal, assistant superintendent and superintendent. She joined the Rocklin district in 2008.
