Youth football week in review

The SYFC regular season came to an end last Saturday with a full slate of action. Midget Oakmont 20, Rocklin 12 The Jr. Vikings cap their 4-5 season with a win at Rocklin. The Jr. Thunder also finish their season at 4-5. Del Oro 25, Woodcreek 0 The Jr. Timberwolves complete a 2-7 season full of player injuries. Del Oro remains the only undefeated Midget team (9-0) and is anything but anxious about their postseason. In round one the Jr. Golden Eagles are the home team against Folsom (6-3) at Oakmont. In week two of the regular season, Del Oro beat the Jr. Bulldogs 30-0. Del Oro was second to American River in points scored with 245 and is the best defensive team in the entire SYFC, giving up just eight points through nine games. Roseville 38, Granite Bay 14 The Jr. Tigers (2-7) snap a seven-game losing streak, winning their second game of the season and the first since their week one victory against Antelope. Granite Bay finishes their season in last place at 1-8. Their only win was against Woodcreek in week three as the Jr. Timberwolves lost their star player Malik Rodriguez for the season to a broken clavicle. Jr. Midget Rocklin 25, Oakmont 6 The Jr. Thunder won a huge game to earn their spot in playoffs. Matching Roseville’s win over Granite Bay, the Jr. Thunder move into the first round of postseason play on a two-game win streak. The Oakmont Jr. Vikings finish 2-7 on the season. Rocklin hosts Roseville in the postseason opener at Oakmont. Rocklin won the regular season meeting 16-0 at home. Del Oro 22, Woodcreek 0 The Jr. Timberwolves close their season at 0-9 as the only team without a win. Del Oro went 2-7 in the regular season. Pee Wee Del Oro 6, Woodcreek 0 The Jr. Timberwolves end their season at 2-7 losing to Del Oro. The Jr. Golden Eagles advance to the playoffs to face top ranked American River (8-1) at Oakmont. Roseville 24, Granite Bay 12 The Jr. Tigers end their season on a win with a record of 3-6. Granite Bay ends league play at 2-7, losing its last 3 games. Rocklin 20, Oakmont 12 The Jr. Vikings end a 1-8 season on a loss. The Jr. Thunder finish just ahead of Oakmont at 2-7. Jr. Pee Wee Granite Bay 25, Roseville 19 The Jr. Grizzlies (6-3) win a double overtime game to advance to the playoffs. Roseville ends their season at 2-7. Granite Bay will be the visiting team against Del Oro (7-2) in round one of the playoffs at Oakmont. Del Oro 7, Woodcreek 0 Losing their last game of the season didn’t affect their postseason goals as the Jr. Timberwolves finish at 6-3. Woodcreek is the visiting team against undefeated American River (9-0) in round one of the playoffs at Oak Ridge. Oakmont 20, Rocklin 0 The Jr. Vikings (3-6) win their last two games of the season, beating Rocklin. The Jr. Thunder complete a winless season (0-9) scoring just 62 points all season while allowing 204. Mighty Mites Woodcreek 32, Del Oro 13 The Jr. Timberwolves complete a 7-2 regular season advancing to the playoffs. Del Oro, with an opposite record, closes a 2-7 season. Woodcreek is home to Oak Ridge (7-2) in next week’s playoffs at Oakmont. Woodcreek wins the tiebreaker on their regular season victory (12-0) over Oak Ridge in week two. Roseville 13, Granite Bay 12 The Jr. Tigers (6-3) win a critical game to advance to the playoffs. Beating Granite Bay (6-3) gave Roseville the tiebreaker win needed to advance. In round one of playoffs Roseville is the visitor to top ranked Folsom (8-1) at Oakmont. Oakmont 12, Rocklin 19 The Jr. Vikings close a 2-7 season on a three-game losing streak. Rocklin finishes at 3-6.
