Lights out shooting by Del Oro right out of the gate furnished a nightmare scenario for the Oakmont High School girls basketball team on its home court Wednesday night. The Lady Vikings were unable to keep up with the red-hot Lady Eagles, falling behind 19-5 after just one quarter of play before losing the contest by a 62-27 final. Oakmont used its entire roster, searching for a combination with answers for the powerful visitors from Loomis, but found nothing that worked. Senior point guard Samantha Hodge scored six of her 11 points in the opening stanza and Del Oro received four first-period points each from senior center Courtney Nolen and senior guard Katie Pulliam. As Del Oro’s seniors led the way, the Vikings once again looked to their sophomores for guidance and came up short in the process. Sophomore guard Kayla Powers led Oakmont scorers with just six points and junior Pauline Parker added five. Guard Gina Spino was very active for the Lady Vikings, harassing Del Oro and slipping past others to grab rebounds. She scored four points and also snagged six boards for Oakmont. Nolen filled up the stat sheet for the Lady Eagles with 12 points, five rebounds, four blocks and three steals. Senior guard Meghan Huckaby also tossed in a dozen points and pulled down three of her five boards at the offensive end. The young Vikings (0-3 in the SFL, 7-10 overall) will look to use this contest as a learning experience heading into their next game Friday night at Woodcreek (1-1, 12-3) at 7:30 p.m. Del Oro (2-0, 13-1) visits Roseville (1-2, 9-8) on Friday.
