The first Roseville District Cup, bringing together all five Roseville Joint Unified School District track and field teams, belonged to Woodcreek High School.

Sophomore Mitchell Layton and senior Destiny Standifer were triple winners as the Timberwolves won the boys and girls competition Friday at Oakmont.

Layton nipped Antelope’s Robert Ellis by five-thousandths of a second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.104 seconds. Ellis’ time was 11.109. Layton also won the long jump at 20 feet, 9 inches and combined with Dylan Stacy, Colton George and Dalton McBride to win the 4x100 relay in 43.45 seconds.

Standifer, meanwhile, dominated the jumping events, claiming the high jump (5-0), long jump (16-7) and triple jump (36-7).

Roseville coach Lisa Blumm said the meet is “a great idea” and something “I think we should try and do every year.” But senior balls, SAT tests and other activities prevented more kids from competing.

“The kids that were there, though, had a good time. The coaching staffs, we all work well together,” she said. “We just need to figure out how to do it earlier in the season. There were not a lot of kids available to compete. But we had some kids that stepped up and competed very well.”

That included double winners Daniel Lehner of Oakmont in the shot put (50-4½) and discus (149-5), Emily Garske of Antelope in the 100 hurdles (16.96) and 4x100 relay (with Jahmisha Nelson, Secret Briscoe and Kyleah Johnson in 50.66), Ashley Jenkins of Roseville in the 100 (12.94) and 200 (26.74), Jami Duarte of Granite Bay in the shot put (35-5) and discus (121-5½) and Marisa Carino of Oakmont in the 800 (2:18.89) and 4x400 relay (with Tiyana Dorsey, Aria Sherazee and Katie Carte in 4:13.94).

Langston Clark of Roseville was a double winner in the frosh-soph competition at Whitney, hitting the tape in the 110 hurdles (15.74 seconds) and the 300 hurdles (41.14).

Roseville freshman Arturo Sotomayor won the 800 in 2:04.23, and Jared Samsel of Roseville won the pole vault at 12-3.
