Woodcreek sweeps first two lacrosse matches

Woodcreek High School opened lacrosse season by blowing out Spanish Springs of Sparks, Nev., 16-1 and beating the San Jose Vipers 8-3 last weekend in Redding.

The Timberwolves outscored Spanish Springs 11-0 in the second half Saturday, and five players had at least two goals. Senior Spencer Elmore had five goals and four assists, and senior Jacob Moroyoqui and sophomore Sawyer Herman scored three goals each.

Elmore came back Sunday and had three goals and four assists against San Jose. Senior midfielder Sutter Choisser, a football star at Whitney, scored two goals.

Senior long-stick midfielder Ryan DeMatteo helped Woodcreek shut down both opponents employing the new defensive system of new coach Curtis Borton.

Woodcreek’s junior varsity squad split two games.




Woodcreek 6, Oakmont 0 — Lexi Wilkerson pitched a three-hitter to lead Woodcreek High School over Oakmont 6-0 in a nonleague softball game Wednesday at Mahany Park.

Wilkerson walked one and struck out three, and the 2012 Sac-Joaquin Section Division II-champion Timberwolves pulled away with four runs in the sixth inning.
Sophomore Jessica Nogosek went 2 for 3, drove in two runs and scored one for Woodcreek, and Amber Budmark had an RBI single.
