Woodcreek seniors roll past Roseville West

West now meets Maidu in elimination game
The game was anything but a thing of beauty, but it was over soon enough. The Woodcreek Little League Senior all-stars turned four base hits into 10 runs Saturday night at Folsom’s Lembi Park as they took care of Roseville West 10-0. The win came in the winner’s bracket of the District 54 tournament. A mixture of walks and errors doomed Roseville West on a night when Woodcreek right-hander Perry Beaber was the model of efficiency. As catcher George Corp helped out by gunning down two would-be base stealers and his defense turned one double play behind him, Beaber tossed a two-hitter in the game that ended after five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule. The Woodcreek pitcher faced just one batter over the minimum as he needed just 60 pitches to dispatch Roseville West. A second inning Garrett Nunnaly single and another by Blake Rivera in the fourth were Roseville West’s only knocks. Woodcreek had three of its four hits in the first inning, when Beaber, Austin Hagarty and Michael Rios all singled in a three-run early rally. A walk and a sequence of passed balls plated a run without a hit in the second as Roseville pitcher Cody Lindner picked up a couple of strikeouts. Two walks, a hit batter and an error got one more run home for Woodcreek in the home half of the third. In the inning, Woodcreek plated five runs on just one hit, the bases-clearing three-run double by Beaber that followed. The Woodcreek pitcher later scored on a wild pitch to complete a five run inning. Woodcreek added the run that ended the game early on an error followed by three walks in the fourth and when Roseville West went down in order, the contest was decided. Roseville West now faces a return engagement with Maidu at 8 p.m. Monday night at Lembi Park. That elimination game will determine Woodcreek’s opponent in the championship game at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Maidu was a 6-4 winner over Folsom National in Saturday’s elimination bracket game.
