Right from the outset, the first round water polo matchup between Woodcreek and Dixon was a mismatch. The Rams had no answers for the Woodcreek attack as the Timberwolves scored nine times in the first stanza before taking their foot off the accelerator the rest of the way in a 16-2 win in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II tournament opener at the Roseville Aquatics Center. Six different Woodcreek players scored in the first quarter, and nine different players combined for its 16 scores. Evan Larsen scored five goals, as he put one home in the first seven minutes and then scored four after the Timberwolves turned the game over to their second unit. Next up for Woodcreek is a date with one of the area’s preeminent water polo programs as the Timberwolves face Capital Athletic League champion Rio Americano at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at the RAC. That game is the third of four Saturday section quarterfinals in that pool.
