Woodcreek players combine for six RBI in North's Optimist softball victory
Woodcreek seniors Courtney Johnson and Paige Davis combined for six RBI to help the North defeat the South 10-5 in the 35th annual Evening Optimist Club High School Softball All-Star Game on Wednesday night at Capital Christian.
Johnson scored on a double steal with Stephanie Ceo of Bear River to give the North a 2-0 lead. With the North trailing 5-2 following a three-run homer by South MVP Carlee Gray of Elk Grove, Johnson hit a tying three-run bomb in the bottom of the third inning.
Davis extended the North’s lead to 9-5 with a two-run single in the fifth. Lollie Fitzpatrick of Roseville had one of the North’s 11 hits, Chasteena Determan of Granite Bay scored a run, and Marisa Andrade of Oakmont reached base. Roseville’s Kalei Levy also played for the North.
“For one thing, all those girls can just flat hit the ball,” said North head coach Art Banks, who last week led Woodcreek to the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II championship. “We had some outstanding players and scored a bunch of runs, had a tough defense, great pitching. You just have to go out and enjoy yourself and let them do their thing.”
North MVP Jordan Courage of Del Oro struck out the side in the sixth and shut down the South to close the win.
