Woodcreek pins Roseville, locks up second place in SFL
Woodcreek High School honored its senior wrestlers and defeated Roseville 45-28 on Wednesday, the final night in the Sierra Foothill League dual-meet season.
The Timberwolves racked up 30 points on pins by Jordan Jensen (106 pounds), James Gomez (126), Andrew Linsenbach (160), Mitchell Houston (195) and senior Connor Vargas, who wrestled up at 285. Winning by decision for Woodcreek was freshman Matt Miller (132), and Andrew Zumaran and Sam Reynolds each won by forfeit.
“It was a tough match between losing some of our starters and Roseville being very tough,” coach Doug Mason said of the Timberwolves, who plugged holes in the lineup, caused by illnesses and injuries, with JV wrestlers. “We seem to bring out our opponent’s best performance. I guess that is the nature of being in the SFL.”
The Timberwolves (4-1 SFL) finished second in the SFL to Del Oro (5-0).
Logan Ash (120), Graeson Leach (152) and Austin Ash (160) won by pin for Roseville (0-5). Winning decisions for the Tigers were Zack Farr (113), Jon Maroon (138) and Austin Dirks (145).
Del Oro 57, Granite Bay 15 — The Grizzlies (2-3 SFL) won three matches against the SFL-champion Golden Eagles. Sean Brown, ranked ninth in the state at 126 pounds by www.thecaliforniawrestler.com, earned a 6-2 decision over Zach Ruybal at 132 pounds. Mitch Morse (170) and Aaron Weise (195) won by pin for Granite Bay.
