FOLSOM — The Woodcreek Padres ran their unbeaten record to 22-0 this season by defeating the Ponderosa Dodgers 3-1 on Sunday in the second round of the District 54 Major Tournament of Champions at Mann Park.

Starter Dennis Boatman was one of three Padres pitchers to shut down Ponderosa. He racked up nine strikeouts in three innings. Ponderosa’s run came on an infield error in the third.

Boatman also drove in leadoff batter Carter Krupp with Woodcreek’s first run. Krupp tripled after a long at-bat. Boatman finished 2 for 2 with a single, double and walk.

“We wanted to keep his pitch count down because he’s our other catcher, so he was upset that he had to come out, but hitting-wise, he’s been hot for probably the last month,” Padres manager Tom Bryce said.

Boatman led off the third with a double and scored on a single by Jack Klein.

The Padres will face Folsom National A at 7:30 p.m. Monday at Mann Park. Folsom National beat Maidu B 5-4 on Sunday.

Boatman threw 36 pitches, and Daniel Susac threw 50 in relief. Krupp closed, entering for Susac and inheriting a 1-2 count to end the game.

Throwing more than 50 pitches would have made Boatman and Susac ineligible to pitch for the rest of the tournament, according to Bryce.

“It felt pretty comfortable out there,” Dennis Boatman said. “These teams are a lot better now, so I feel a lot more pressure, but I’d love to be able to pitch again.”

Roseville West B will meet Folsom National B at 5 p.m. Monday at Mann Park.

The other half of the quarterfinal bracket is at McFarland Field in Folsom. Lakeside A meets Woodcreek B at 7:30 p.m. Monday.
