Woodcreek lacrosse starts with sweep of Redding, Chico

Woodcreek High School began its second varsity lacrosse season by scoring identical 9-7 victories over Redding on Feb. 25 and Chico on Sunday at the Redding Jamboree.

Junior Eddie Ramsey scored three goals as Woodcreek overcame a 5-2 halftime deficit against Redding. Clay Crowley and Spencer Elmore scored two goals each, and goalies Avery Blevins and Nick Franze made 13 and 11 saves.

Crowley scored four goals against Chico, and Connor McKinzey and Brandon Carter had two apiece.

“Possessions and a strong defense were key in pulling out the two wins, along with some stellar shooting from our starting attack,” Woodcreek coach Mike Strong said.

Softball

Woodcreek 5, Whitney 0 — Lexi Wilkerson pitched a four-hitter with four strikeouts and had a double and single to lift the Timberwolves over the Wildcats in their season opener Tuesday. Paige Davis had two hits and scored two runs for Woodcreek, and Taiya McInnes drove in two runs.

Boys volleyball

Granite Bay 3, Oakmont 0 — The Grizzlies came back from a 10-6 deficit in the second set to sweep the host Vikings 25-17, 25-19, 25-12 on Wednesday night.
Roseville 3, Davis 1 — The Tigers improved to 2-0 with a 25-16, 19-25, 25-17, 25-17 victory over the host Blue Devils on Thursday night.

Girls soccer

Granite Bay 1, St. Francis 0 — Sara Giddings scored the only goal as the reigning Sac-Joaquin Section Division II-champion Grizzlies defeated the Troubadours in their season opener Tuesday.

JV softball

Woodcreek 8, Whitney 2 — Emily Moses had two hits and three RBI, and Katie Wood pitched a five-hitter and struck out seven for the Timberwolves. Jessica Nogosek stole two bases and scored two runs for Woodcreek.

JV girls soccer

Granite Bay 1, St. Francis 1 — Natalie Rhodes scored for the Grizzlies in their tie with the Troubadours.
