Behind another stellar pitching effort from Stephen Nogosek, the Woodcreek Little League Junior division all-stars took care of business in their first game of the Section 4 tournament with a 9-2 win over West Sacramento Sunday night at Folsom’s Lembi Field. Nogosek struck out 10 while allowing just four hits as he took the game into the seventh stanza before yielding the bump to Joey Valdez, who finished up. Woodcreek scored single runs in the first and third as it began to take control of the game. Joey Dirkes picked up his first of three hits of the game with a first inning and scored on a Tyler Milani base hit to left for the first run. A hit batter and a double by Nogosek scored Austin McCarty for the third inning tally, but the real damage came in the home half of the fifth when Woodcreek plated five runs. Dirkes, Valdez, Milani and George Corp all drove in runs in the fifth frame. Rocklin is up next for Woodcreek in a Monday night winner’s bracket contest.
