Woodcreek juniors shine in scrimmage with Davis, Pleasant ValleyBy: Bill Poindexter/Roseville Press Tribune Sports Editor
Woodcreek High School trotted out a roster heavy in juniors — 31 total — to face Davis and Chico-Pleasant Valley in a three-way football scrimmage Saturday morning at Woodcreek.
The host Timberwolves moved the ball up and down the field. Senior quarterback Stephen Nogosek showed off the passing arm that is drawing considerable attention from baseball recruiters and scouts, and junior understudies Kelly Kerins and Jeff Trujillo also played well.
Junior Kyle Gately, made two touchdown catches, one when he slipped into the open after Nogosek bought time with his scrambling ability and the other on a leaping grab in the corner of the end zone.
Junior Michael Daw looked good at free safety, as did cornerbacks Dylan Stacy and Alex Rotteveel.
And note this: Davis, 7-32 over its last four seasons, has some players … and size … and strength. The Blue Devils could be a player in the Delta Valley Conference. If not, then the DVC is just that good.
