ROCKLIN — Something as simple as acting natural helped Woodcreek Little League’s Junior all-star team break out following three scoreless innings to secure a 9-4 victory over Tahoe Tallac on Monday in the losers’ bracket of the Section 4 Tournament at Twin Oaks Community Park.

“I just wanted to hit the ball well, to go up and not think,” said Tommy Gill, who drove in Justin Watari and Jack Rotteveel to give Woodcreek the lead in the sixth inning moments after Cole Snider tied the score. Woodcreek scored five runs in the sixth. Jack Fitzpatrick then drove in Gill and Jack Pankratz.

The late offensive surge made a winner of Spencer Cody, who threw a 95-pitch complete game.

“So far this whole tournament, we had someone step up,” Woodcreek manager Erik Hanson said. “Today was Spencer Cody’s game.”

Woodcreek moves into the losers’ bracket final at 7 p.m. Tuesday against College Glen, which fell to host Rocklin 5-4 on Monday. The championship game is at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
