Woodcreek High honor society hosts Fall Harvest Festival
By: Bailey Marshall Special to The Press-Tribune
Woodcreek High School’s National Honor Society, a select club that fosters leadership and community service on campus, has been gearing up for the Fall Harvest Festival to take place from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Nov. 15 at the Woodcreek campus. All the proceeds of the festival will go toward Roseville Home Start, a local organization dedicated to getting homeless families back on their feet. The festival is open to the local community, specifically children, and will include games and activities such as pumpkin painting, cookie decorating, puppet shows and special appearances from Wood-creek’s drama department. “I am hoping the community comes together that day,” said Heather Schlaman, assistant principal at Woodcreek and co-adviser to the National Honor Society. “And that we’ll make a significant contribution to a worthy organization. I expect that WHS students will do an outstanding job putting on a high- quality, student-run event.” Woodcreek’s National Honor Society is made up of more than 160 high school students (a 50 percent increase from last year), all of whom have a 3.5 GPA or higher and have demonstrated leadership and community involvement. Every year NHS puts on a Western-themed carnival in May for Woodbridge Elementary, which consists of more than 20 student-run activity booths. NHS has also jump-started and nurtured tutoring groups, weekly study nights and advanced-level book clubs on the WHS campus. “We’ve been making flyers and distributing them to the elementary schools, working on creating fun games, and working hard to secure donations for the event,” said Woodcreek senior Jamie Dehn, NHS member and event manager of the Harvest Festival. “I expect there will be a really good turnout with tons of kids running around having a good time. I can’t wait for the day to actually come. We’ve worked really hard and we’re really excited.” Admission to the Fall Harvest Festival is free with tickets available for purchase at the door, to be used for games, activities, food and refreshments.
