Woodcreek grad Everett signs with Montana school

Sami-Jo Everett, a 2010 graduate of Woodcreek High School, helped Southwestern Oregon Community College’s softball team to a 36-7 record in the spring and next will play on scholarship for Montana State University Billings.

Everett hit .279 with six doubles and four home runs, including a grand slam, for the Lakers, who went 18-2 to win the South Region of the Northwest Athletic Association of Community Colleges.

She was named to the NWAACC South Region All-Stars second team and graduated with an Associate of Arts Oregon Transfer degree.

Baumgarten wins at Plumas Lake

Brandon Baumgarten of Granite Bay shot a 1-under-par 70 to win the overall boys championship at The First Tee of Greater Sacramento Jr. Tour tournament June 26 at Plumas Lake Country Club.

Corey Eddings of Oakmont won a playoff for the boys 16-18 championship. Eddings, Bryce Johnson of Woodcreek and Conner Estrada of Yuba City tied for the top spot, each with a 71.

Jeffrey Inouye-Wong fired a 74 to tie for second in boys 14-15, one stroke behind winner Clark Pietromonaco of Auburn. Inouye-Wong and Baumgarten were teammates on Granite Bay’s state-championship team this season.

Drake Mendenhall shot an 81 for second place and Karim Richani an 82 for third in boys 12-13. Both are Granite Bay residents. Grant Leppek of Rocklin won with a 78.

Neeve Chen of Roseville won girls 12-14 with an 83. In girls 15-18, Virgie Velazquez of Roseville tied for second with an 80.

Free BMX racing in honor of Olympic Day

Oak Creek BMX in Roseville is one of nearly 300 BMX tracks in the country that will offer free racing in honor of Olympic Day.

Olympic BMX rider Donny Robinson and basketball star Ruthie Bolton are scheduled to appear when Oak Creek BMX holds free racing from 6-7 p.m. Thursday. Oak Creek BMX is located at 648 Riverside Avenue.
