Woodcreek cyclists win four races in opener at Folsom LakeBy: Staff Report
Woodcreek High School put 25 cyclists on bikes for the season opener at Folsom Lake on Sunday, and four won their races in the TBF Racing event.
Senior Nathan Murcia captured the male expert race, covering 18 miles in one hour, 18 minutes and 54 seconds. Sophomore Bryce Lewis won the 12-mile male sport race in 56:53, and freshman Connor Jinguji, one of Woodcreek’s 16 new cyclists, took the six-mile male novice ride in 34:54.
For the girls, freshman Lauren Ostrander led a 1-2-3 Woodcreek finish in the six-mile novice high school race in 46:34. Freshman Anna Fidler (47:28) was second and senior Morgan Neutz (51:34) third.
Neilson Powless, a Roseville sophomore who trains with Woodcreek, sustained a broken chain at Dalton’s Point, three miles from the finish, ran in with his bike and still finished third in the male expert race.
James Goodin of Oakmont was the runner-up in male sport, and Austin Wolfe of Woodcreek finished fifth, and in the male novice race, Woodcreek placed eight riders in the top 10 and 13 in the top 20. Bailey Earhart of Granite Bay placed second.
Also, Amanda Winne finished third, Alex Amador fourth and Tess Wenning fifth in female sport.
Coach Jim Winne praised his team for its “solid results from top to bottom.”
The next pre-season race is Feb. 3 at Folsom Lake.
