Lapses in the defensive third put the Woodcreek High soccer team in a hole Wednesday night, and the team could not escape in a 5-1 home loss to Yuba City. The Honkers scored first on a volley off of a free kick, and tallied three more times before the Timberwolves finally creased the net with just 15 minutes to play in the second stanza. Matt Glasgo scored the Woodcreek goal, assisted by Cody Meza on a corner kick. Yuba City tacked on one more score in extra time to set the final margin. “They played well and deserved to win,” said Woodcreek coach Chris Branson. “We had times where we dominated but failed to score when we had our chances. They really capitalized on our mistakes.” The Timberwolves are back in action at the Del Campo tournament this weekend at Cherry Island Soccer Complex. Woodcreek plays Atwater at 3 p.m. and South Tahoe at 6 p.m. Friday, with two more games set for Saturday.
