A woman finishing up her holiday shopping was assaulted Sunday after she interrupted her car getting burglarized at the Bel Air market on North Sunrise Boulevard.

According to the Roseville Police Department, the woman was exiting Bel Air when a strange man approached her car in the parking lot.  The woman had already opened the door of her vehicle. The suspect suddenly tried to steal several shopping bags he noticed inside. The woman attempted to intervene and was punched.

“He grabbed three of the JC Penney’s bags and ran away through the parking lot,” said Roseville police Sgt. Karl Dyer. “That’s all we know so far. It’s an ongoing investigation and if anyone has information they should definitely call us.”

Dyer said the victim did not need medical attention at the scene.

The suspect is described as a white male, 6 feet tall wearing a black, zip-up hoodie.

Police advise holiday shoppers — as well as residents in general — to keep any objects that might entice a vehicle burglar out of sight.

“Our biggest problem right now is people are leaving valuables in their cars in plain view,” Dyer said. “There are thieves patrolling parking lots all the time. If they look through the window and know they’ll get something good, they’re a lot more likely to break in.”
