Why is Sierra Club against higher education in Placer?

-A +A
I am truly amazed to read on the Press-Tribune Web site that the Sierra Club is against higher education in Placer County. My son is 9 years old. I wonder where he will be able to go to college in another nine years. There aren’t enough colleges in the area to support the students coming out of our high schools now, and it’s just going to get worse in the future. I would like my son to have the opportunity to be educated and live in this beautiful community. We need a variety of people to sustain a viable community. We can’t have all our young people moving away from Placer County because they can’t get educated here. We have a group of families willing to give more than 1,100 acres to a university. We have a university that is willing to take the risk of investing in Placer County. I have investigated Drexel Univer-sity. They are top-notch. Instead of criticizing these families for their donation, we should be commending them. I encourage Placer County’s Board of Supervisors to vote in favor of the university. It’s smart growth to enhance our community for years to come. Laura Bickford, Roseville
