Freshman Kristin Ladas scored 14 points Saturday as the Whitney High girls basketball team knocked off Roseville 42-38 in the third-place game at Whitney’s Wildcat Invitational. The game was evenly contested from start to finish as the Wildcats took a 10-8 lead after one, and then held on to a 21-18 advantage at intermission. After scoring just seven points in the first half Friday night against Woodcreek, the scoring of Ladas got Whitney off to a better start this time out. The Wildcats were up five after three quarters and had just enough to hold off a Roseville team that scored 10 points in each of the final three periods. Kristina Fahey scored nine for Whitney. The Tigers were led by Katie Simon’s 14 and 10 more from Kayla Granucci. The Wildcats (3-1) host Yuba City at 7 p.m. Tuesday night. Roseville (2-3) is at Inderkum at 7 p.m Tuesday.
