Walmart hits Granite Bay

-A +A
Walmart held a ceremony Wednesday morning to open its new Walmart Neighborhood Market in Granite Bay. Smaller than traditional Walmarts, the Neighborhood Market branch of the company began in 1998 and is primarily a grocery and pharmacy outlet designed for speedy shopping. The opening day event began with a performance of the national anthem by the Granite Bay High School choir. The Granite Bay post of the Veterans of Foreign Wars handled presentation of the colors. “One of our three basic beliefs is striving for excellence,” store manager Crystal Weingart told residents who had gathered for the ribbon-cutting. “Hopefully you’ll see that when you walk in this morning, and you’ll see it every day when you come here.” Placer County CEO David Boesch called the new Walmart “a fabulous addition to the Granite Bay neighborhood.” Walmart management soon began handing out a number of community outreach checks. Checks for the amount of $2,000 were given to the Granite Bay VFW Post, Granite Bay High School, the South Placer Fire Department, Placer County Sheriff’s Department and a local church, whose pastor had given the invocation for the ribbon-cutting ceremony. ~ Staff Report
