Volunteers brave weather, plant trees

Nearly 30 volunteers plant native oak seedlings in Roseville open space
-A +A
Wind and rain didn't keep nearly 30 volunteers from participating in a tree-planting event Saturday at Blue Oaks Park in Roseville. Among the volunteers was a group of Girl Scouts who helped beautify their community, while earning a badge for their hard work. They helped plant 200 native oak trees around Roseville during an event sponsored by the Sacramento Tree Foundation, City of Roseville and Roseville Urban Forest Foundation. Volunteers were given a lesson on the whole process, from growing an acorn to planting a seedling with proper irrigation. The goal is to plant 1,000 trees by March 2011. The next tree-planting event takes place 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Dec. 4, at Blue Oaks Park, 8425 Early Way. Three more events will follow. Volunteers should register at www.sactree.com/events. ~ Sena Christian
