The Valley Christian Academy baseball team put a double hurt on Lutheran Friday. The Lions outscored Lutheran 48-2 in the two games of a doubleheader as they seemed to find the offense that has been missing from the attack. The day began with a 10-run first inning for VCA as it went on to an 18-0 win. Paul Finnell and Junior Casas combined to toss the shutout. Ryan Cordell hit a pair of grand slams to lead a 14-hit Lion attack. Finnell also had a pair of hits, including a long ball and three runs batted in. Junior Casas and Quentin Moore each had two knocks. A 13-run second stanza and a nine-run third highlighted VCA's 30-2 win in the second game of the twinbill. Valley Christian ripped 22 hits, with Cordell and Casas leading the way. Cordell hit two more home runs, and also roped a pair of two-baggers, while driving in nine runs. Casas also hit two round-trippers, with four hits and seven RBIs. Gabe Miramontes went the first four innings on the bump in game two. "Cordell and Casas had amazing days," said VCA coach Brad Gunter. "I don’t care what level we are playing, we have not been able to play this well all year. Today was the first day that I felt we were starting to turn around as a baseball team. Thank goodness it is in the right direction." The Lions visited Vacaville Christian in a non-league game Saturday night.
