Valley Christian wins league JV tournament with two blowouts

Valley Christian Academy blew out Sacramento Adventist 75-42 and Yuba City-Faith Christian 77-51 on Thursday to win the Sacramento Metro Athletic League’s JV boys basketball tournament.

The host Lions (20-6) led Adventist 55-17 at halftime in the opener Thursday afternoon. Hunter Fenn made three three-pointers and led Valley Christian with 11 points. Micah Gunter and Forest Ryan scored 10 points each, and Elijah Winters and Titus Converse had nine apiece.

Valley Christian overcame a one-point deficit after one period with a 15-5 second quarter to lead Faith Christian 31-22 at halftime. Gunter hit three three-pointers and led the Lions with 15 points. Winters scored 14 points, Zach Sween 12, Fenn 10 and Ryan nine.

“This is a special group of kids,” Mike Parker said after wrapping up his first 20-win season as coach.

Faith defeated Vacaville-Buckingham Charter 70-52 in the first round. Buckingham beat Adventist 62-58 in overtime for third place.
