Valley Christian Academy established a first Friday when senior Erin Patterson committed to attend the Wentworth Institute of Technology, an NCAA Division III college in Boston.

Following Emily Flood’s decision to play volleyball at Simpson University in Redding, Patterson’s decision gives Valley Christian two female athletic commitments in the same school year for the first time.

Patterson received an acceptance letter from Wentworth on Friday morning and will play volleyball and softball for the Leopards.

Playing for Valley Christian volleyball coach Maria Hill and her dad, assistant coach Chris Patterson, Erin played in two Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI championship matches. She led the Lady Lions in kills and aces and was second on the team in digs in the 2011 and 2012 seasons. Patterson was an All-Sacramento Metro Athletic League first-team selection last fall.

Patterson currently is playing her fourth year of varsity softball for coach Shawnda Bowen. Patterson was an All-SMAL second-team pick last spring.
