It’s been a busy first week of baseball season for Valley Christian Academy.

The Lions split their first two games and added a game against El Camino on Thursday before playing Rio Linda at 6 p.m. Friday at Raley Field.

Valley Christian, which has won four of the last five Sac-Joaquin Section Division VII championships, blew out Union Mine 14-3 in its opener and lost at Inderkum 6-3 on Tuesday.

After belting 14 hits at Union Mine, the Lions were held to two against Inderkum.

Program newcomer Asher Hammergren announced his arrival to Valley Christian by hitting a grand slam in the top of the first inning, and he hit a two-run shot in the second.

Jimmy Shaw went 3 for 3 with four RBI, Levi Hagerty went 3 for 4 with a double, and Teagan Mowry had a double, a single and two RBI.

Pitcher Jeremiah Moore didn’t have his best stuff but still struck out eight in four hitless innings.
