A big lead almost disappeared Friday night for the Valley Christian junior varsity boys basketball team, but the Lions responded to hold off Faith Christian 51-42. “For some reason we always have a problem at their place,” said Valley Christian coach Mike Parker. “We hit some big shots down the stretch and held them off.” VCA ran off a 10-point spurt to open the game and led 18-6 at the end of the first quarter. The lead expanded slightly to 32-16 by intermission, but Faith Christian hung around to make it a game in the final stanza. Kris Kobzeff scored 19 points and pulled down eight rebounds to lead the Valley Christian attack. Wright Hagerty scored 11 points, while Josh Flanagan and Josh Bowden each scored eight. Daniel Lazaresku was a major factor with seven rebounds and six blocked shots. The Lions (4-0 in the SMAL, 11-6 overall) host Bradshaw Christian Tuesday night.
