Valley Christian girls climb to No. 2 in section power ratings

Valley Christian Academy’s girls basketball team is No. 2 in the latest and final Sac-Joaquin Section Division VI power ratings.

The Lady Lions were 9-0 in the Sacramento Metro Athletic League when the power ratings were released Monday, then they dismantled Elk Grove-Lutheran 71-39 to improve to 12-9 overall and 10-0 in the SMAL.

Valley Christian, led by sophomores Jenny Frank and Lily Hagerty with 23 and 16 points, was one of four local teams looking at a playoff berth. Granite Bay fell from No. 2 to No. 7 in the Division I boys power ratings after losing to Roseville and Del Oro last week, and Woodcreek fell to No. 20 after beating Nevada Union and losing to Roseville. In Division II, the Tigers climbed to No. 8.

Oakmont is No. 27 in Division III, and Valley Christian is No. 15 in Division V. Divisions I-IV have 16-team playoff brackets, Division V has a 12-team bracket, and Division VI has eight teams.

Oakmont’s girls are No. 13 in Division III. Woodcreek is No. 18 and Granite Bay is No. 25 in Division I, and Roseville is 32nd in Division II.

The power ratings, which can be viewed at www.cifsjs.org, won’t be released next week. The playoff brackets will be released Wednesday, Feb. 13.
