Unbeaten Roseville tennis heads to tournament
Roseville High School improved to 3-0 with an 8-1 nonleague victory at El Camino on Thursday and next heads to the California High School Girls Tennis Classic on Sept. 9-10 in Clovis.
Bianca Luna and Janet Rowe were impressive in winning their singles matches, and the No. 2 doubles team of Samantha Brainard and Lindsay Springsteen recorded a 6-2, 6-3 victory.
Roseville 3, El Camino 0 — The Tigers swept the Eagles 25-18, 25-17, 25-17 in a Foundation Game. El Camino was the runner-up to Rocklin in the Sac-Joaquin Section Division II playoffs last season and lost one player to graduation, according to Roseville coach Ron Grove.
Marrisa Dumford gave the Tigers an all-around effort between passing, digging, blocking and hitting. Amanda Susbilla played well at libero and on defense, and Kendall Harrison had a solid all-around match.
“We are young and less experienced, and although we have a lot of talented players, we have to learn to play with more intensity to compete in the SFL,” Grove said in an e-mail. “It should come with maturity, experience and time.”
