Turkey, trimmings for 50 families

-A +A
About 50 families who otherwise wouldn’t have had a Christmas dinner will have one thanks to the National Wild Turkey Federation. Frank Fiddyment, chairman of the Placer County Chapter, received 50 turkeys from a local Safeway at a discount. The meals for the families also included potatoes, stuffing, rolls and cranberry sauce. The money for the food was provided by a grant from the NWTF. “All the families are primarily from Placer County,” Fiddyment said. “It wasn’t that difficult to find 50 families,” he said while shaking his head at the nation’s economic situation. Half of the families were found though Bayside Church, and the rest were through schools and the 4-H club. Originally, they planned for 30 families to receive the food, but that number blossomed. In 2010 the NWTF donated 19,000 turkeys to families in need of holiday meals. ~ Philip Wood
