Triples-happy Oakmont bombs Kennedy in softball

Justine Garner drove in three runs with three of Oakmont High School’s six triples, and the Vikings totaled 15 hits in a 20-3 nonleague softball victory over Kennedy on Wednesday at Oakmont.

Tiara Turner had four RBI and Kristen McCue three for the Vikings (5-3), who scored 13 runs in the bottom of the first inning. McCue homered, and Marisa Andrade had two doubles and two RBI.

McCue also homered in a 4-2 victory over Ponderosa on Tuesday, and Savannah Loomis pitched a four-hitter and struck out eight. Turner pitched a four-hitter and struck out seven against Kennedy.


Oakmont 7, Del Oro 6 — A.J. Masters struck out three batters in the bottom of the seventh as the Vikings (4-0) held off the Golden Eagles in Loomis.

Tom Wieser had three hits and two RBI for Oakmont, and Ryan Gearing had three hits and three stolen bases. Jimmy Lunardelli reached base four times and stole two bases. Cody Baron had two hits.

Valley Christian drops two — The Lions lost at Grant 1-0 on Tuesday and fell at home to Pioneer 11-5 on Thursday.

Jake Sween, Jimmy Shaw and Jeremiah Moore combined on a two-hitter with eight strikeouts against Grant (4-1). The Pacers’ run was unearned.

Shaw had three hits, and Levi Hagerty had a double and single.

On Thursday, the Lions (2-2) surrendered six runs in the fifth — on two three-run homers — and five runs in the seventh. Valley Christian pitching allowed seven walks and hit five batters.

Quentin Moore went 3 for 3 with a double for Valley Christian, and Jeremiah Moore hit a three-run homer.

Girls soccer

Woodcreek 2, Roseville 0 — Marissa Griffin and Zaessja Madamba scored as the Timberwolves (7-1-2, 1-0) knocked off the previously unbeaten Tigers (11-1, 0-1).

Granite Bay 9, Nevada Union 0 — Kayla Karlsson scored twice on assists by Makenzie Brito, and the Grizzlies (3-1-1, 1-0) blanked the Miners. Chloe Dobson, Avery Hutchinson and Jessie Myers each had a goal and an assist, and senior Dorien Johnk assisted freshman sister Tamren Johnk on a goal.

Also scoring for Granite Bay were Ashley Sweeting, Jodie Higgins and Sara Giddings.

Boys volleyball

Grant 3, Roseville 2 — The visiting Pacers (10-1) came back to hand the Tigers (12-1) their first loss of the season 25-21, 23-25, 17-25, 25-22, 15-12. Josh Frost led Roseville with 22 kills, and Connor Miller had 14. Cristian Habeil had 31 assists.

Boys tennis

Nevada Union 7, Woodcreek 2 — Nos. 1 and 2 singles players Brandon Renslo and Vitaliy Kalachik won their matches 7-6, 6-1 and 6-4, 6-4 for the Timberwolves (0-3 SFL).

JV boys lacrosse

Granite Bay wins twice — The Grizzlies (5-0) defeated Piedmont 14-1 and Bellarmine 7-4. Dakota Burley and Scott Zobrowski each netted two goals against Piedmont, and Owen McNiff had a hat trick against Bellarmine. Dayton Allegra scored two goals in the win over Bellarmine.
