Golf entertainment business TopGolf International Inc., announced Friday that it has selected Roseville as the site for its first Northern California location, which the company says will create 450 new jobs and an estimated $265 million in economic activity over the next decade.

TopGolf plans to begin construction on the 65,000-square-foot facility in the fall, with an anticipated opening of spring 2015. The venue will be located at the intersection of Blue Oaks and Washington boulevards, adjacent to Highway 65, which is property owned by Bayside Church.

“Roseville is an ideal place for our first California location,” said Topgolf Chief Development Officer Randy Starr, in a press release. “It’s a perfect location with highway visibility, making it easily accessible to Roseville’s vibrant and growing community of residents and businesses. We have a fantastic neighbor in Bayside Church, and the City of Roseville has also been a great partner. We look forward to making TopGolf Roseville a reality.”

TopGolf calls itself a lively, entertainment-rich golf range with 10 locations in the United States and United Kingdom.

The new venue will be three levels and include up to 2,900 square feet of private event space and more than 100 climate-controlled hitting bays that can each host up to six players at a time, according to the release. Players hit golf balls containing computer microchips that track each shot’s accuracy and distance while awarding points for hitting targets on the outfield.

“Topgolf is anything but a traditional driving range,” said Chris Robles, economic development director for the city, in the release. “We think the concept is perfectly suited for our residents and expect Topgolf to be extremely popular. The venue offers something for everyone, and it is a great example of the varied entertainment venues we seek to provide for Roseville residents and our neighboring communities.”

Bayside Church purchased the 59-acre parcel of land in June, and plans to develop a portion of the site for a new church campus called Bayside North.

“Topgolf is a family friendly organization, which helps attract newcomers, especially youth, to golf, and we expect they will be a great neighbor for us,” said John Stewart director of real estate at Bayside Church.
