The top three Division II high school golf teams in the Sac-Joaquin Section last season were on the same course Monday in Roseville, but they were competing in different tournaments.

Christian Brothers shot a team score of 376 to win Capital Valley Conference tournament No. 1 at Sierra View Country Club.

Del Oro won Sierra Foothill League tournament No. 1 with a 383 score. Nevada Union was second with 386 and Granite Bay third with 389.

While CBS’ victory didn’t affect the SFL event, Del Oro’s win and Granite Bay’s third-place finish knocked the Grizzlies out of first place.

“We now have to make up some ground, and the way golf goes, it can happen,” Granite Bay coach Terry Stafford said.

The Grizzlies went into the tournament with a 4-1 SFL record, including a win over Del Oro. Granite Bay recorded a string of 70s: a 75 by sophomore Bryan Wise, a 77 by sophomore Chuck Pedone and 78s by senior Connor Hallisey and junior Alex Gibbs, but the Golden Eagles rode a 1-under-par 71 by medalist Eric Ash to first place. Adam Grizzell of Nevada Union was one stroke back with a 72.

Granite Bay sophomore Brandon Baumgarten shot 81 and freshman Mitch Markin 86.

Rocklin finished fourth with 411, Woodcreek fifth with 414, and Roseville shot a 427, its best 18-hole team score this season. Kyle Atteberry led the Tigers with an 81, followed by Logan Kerby with an 84, Nathan Haley with an 85, C.J. Antekeier with an 86 and Matsu Mori and Cameron Naugle with 91.

Oakmont shot a 394 to finish second to CBS in the CVC tournament. CBS golfers occupied four of the top five individual scores. Oakmont’s Mike Croisetiere shot a 2-over 74 to finish second individually.
