The Roseville High girls volleyball team overcame another slow start Tuesday as it beat Placer in four games in a non-league match. Off their SFL bye on Monday, the Tigers took a break from league play to take on the talented Hillgals in Auburn. Roseville overcame some early errors to win a hotly contested first game and then battled through a very competitive contest before finishing off Placer 26-24, 21-25, 25-22, 25-17. “We started out slow in the first game, again, and it took a while for us to catch up to the speed of the game,” said Roseville coach Ron Grove. “We have worked on starting better. We were not hitting smart in the first game, making some careless errors. However we were able to pick up the speed of our play and win the game. The rest of the match, we made adjustments and were able to play at a faster pace and hit smarter.” After Placer captured game two, the Tigers won another tight one in the third stanza before winning game four in a more comfortable fashion despite yielding the first five points of the game. “The match featured many long rallies and was an entertaining hard fought match as Placer and Roseville both played a scrappy, athletic match,” Grove said. “It is a good tune-up for our last league game against Del Oro and the section playoffs next week.” \ Jessica Richardson continues to fill in for the injured Kelsey Roland at outside hitter had a good match with nine kills. Richardson dominated on the block, and was her usual strong self on the back row with 25 digs. Kali Lauhon spread out to offense from her setter position. Simone Durham and Katie Simon each had nine kills and Stephanie Blumm added eight. Hilary Coy played a nice game in the back row, with 12 big-time digs and some nice passing. The Tigers were back home Wednesday for senior night and a regular season ending date with Del Oro.
