The 14-and-under Roseville Thunder Blue softball team finished second in the Greater Sacramento Softball Association (GSSA) Metro Tournament last weekend in Folsom. With the result, the team has qualified for the Western National B Tournament to be held in Roseville the first week of August. The weekend saw the Thunder post a 4-2 record that included two wins in three preliinary games on Saturday. Roseville beat Tahoe 4-3 and Folsom 4-2, whlie losing to Foothill 10-3. That moved the Thunder on to Sunday's action where they knocked off Davis 12-7 in the quarterfinals and beat Roseville league rival, Thunder Red 13-5 before dropping a tough 6-5 decision to American River in the championship game. Courtney Bello and Courtney Lemos turned in outstanding work in the pitcher's circle. The offense was led by Maysn Ungerer, Janelle Panelo, Sierra Alejandrez and Brittany Whitten. Defensively, Olivia Dibble and Karen Kurpershoek controlled the middle infield all weekend long, while speed in the outfield with Adrianna Reagan and Megan Edwards was particularly key in the win over the Roseville Thunder Red squad. Aimee Schmidt, Taylor Snider and Nicole Nieman rounded out a strong weekend performance.
