A Sacramento man is behind bars after allegedly committing theft, participating in a hit-and-run and leading a brief manhunt through central Roseville.
According to the Roseville Police Department, Jason Jackson and another unknown suspect stole clothes from Macy's at the Westfield Galleria at Roseville around 4 p.m. Thursday. When a Roseville police officer located the suspects' vehicle on Interstate 80 and attempted to make a traffic stop, Jackson's accomplice began driving recklessly. He reportedly caused a three-car collision on the freeway's off-ramp for Riverside Avenue. As the Roseville officer pulled up on the scene, the two suspects fled on foot.
The California Highway Patrol began handling the crash investigation while Roseville officers and firefighters assisted with traffic control. A number of police units soon began conducting a search for the suspects in the creek beds near Riverside Avenue. A CHP helicopter also assisted in the hunt. A Roseville police sergeant said that Jackson was apprehended just before 4:30 p.m. on Melody Lane. He was booked into jail on charges of theft and conspiracy to commit a crime.
Jackson's alleged accomplish is wanted on suspicion of a number of charges, including of theft and hit-and-run.
