The Roseville Community Tennis Association for the first time is hosting Tennis Night in America at 4 p.m. today at the Mahany courts in Roseville.

Youth players will have the opportunity during the event to sign up for RCTA spring and summer programs, including leagues and team tennis. The event is sponsored by the United States Tennis Association.

RCTA professional instructors are scheduled to conduct free clinics and demonstrations.

Pre-registration open for eighth Run Rocklin
Adults and kids can pre-register for the eighth annual Run Rocklin, scheduled for Sunday, April 3, at Johnson-Springview Park in Rocklin.

Early registration costs $29 for adults and $15 for kids 18 and under. Race-day costs are $34 and $20. Teams of six or more also can sign up.

The 12K run is scheduled for 8 a.m. and the 5K run/walk at 8:15. A free quarter-mile kids fun run is scheduled for 7:45, and there is a free one-mile run for kids at 9:30.

There were 2,600 participants in last year’s event, which helps raise money for the Matt Redding Scholarship Foundation. The foundation has given $34,000 in memory of Redding, a Rocklin police officer who was killed on duty in October 2005 when he was struck by a vehicle driven by an intoxicated driver.

Roseville Elks to hold golf tournament
The Roseville Elks Lodge will hold its annual Kelly Lamberton Memorial Charity Golf Tournament on Monday, April 4, at Timber Creek at Sun City Roseville.

The tournament benefits the Elks Lodge’s youth charity fund and its program for children with disabilities, including physical and occupational therapy, speech pathology and eye screening.

Cost for the four-person scramble format is $80 per player and includes greens fee, cart, tee prizes and barbecue chicken and tri-tip dinner. Non-golfers can purchase a dinner ticket for $12. A shotgun start is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.

Woodcreek golf pro offers junior camps, clinics
Woodcreek Golf Club teaching professional Bill Childs will begin offering group clinics and camps for junior golfers.

Weekly youth clinics will be offered to beginners and experienced golfers in age groups from 6-10 and 11-16. The focus will be on swing fundamentals, etiquette, sportsmanship and the development of technical skills. The cost is $69.

Three-day camps will be offered to beginners and slightly experienced players. This class provides nine hours of training. Skill development includes putting, chipping, bunker play and full swing while learning about equipment, rules, etiquette and sportsmanship. The cost is $129.

Advanced three-day camps will allow experienced golfers to hone their skills through drills and contests with some course time. The camp will prepare a player’s game for course play and competition. The cost is $129.
