Take the monument challenge

Group still needs $30,000 for WWII sculpture
-A +A

Residents are being asked to donate money toward the building and installation of a bronze monument to honor World War II veterans of Japanese ancestry and the thousands of people who were sent to live in internment camps.

The Japanese American Citizens League and Placer County are behind the sculpture, which will reside at the Bill Santucci Justice Center in Roseville.

The project costs an estimated $160,000 and organizers remain $30,000 short of this goal.

Ken and Terry Yagura have pledged to match up to $5,000 for individual donations of $250 or more. For example, if 20 people each donate $250 for a total of $5,000, the couple will contribute an additional $5,000. This offer expires Dec. 31. To donate, visit www.placerjacl.org.
